This course is designed to provide participants with practical skills in the drafting and negotiation of power sector documentation; the general management of power sector transactions including transaction structuring and dispute management. The three-day training will help delegates understand the intricacies of negotiating/documenting power sector contracts. The program will aid delegates to understand the key legislation, regulations, statutory instruments, policies, guidance notes, etc that the industry is governed by and the various documentation in financing Power contracts. The programme will provide a good understanding of the Nigerian electric power supply value chain, from fuel supply (particularly gas) to power generation, transmission (especially where on-grid) and distribution.

 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This course will be enriched with pragmatic tools and case studies that discusses the importance of the various aspects of the negotiation process and showcasing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to it. Participants will leave with the skills to identify red flags in a business situation and enabled to find the optimal solution to it. The programme will provide a good understanding of the Nigerian electric power supply value chain, from fuel supply (particularly gas) to power generation, transmission (especially where on-grid), distribution and the dynamics of arranging a Bankable Power Project.

This course will feature series of exercises and integrated workshop sessions where delegates will have the opportunity to work through different exercises using hypothetical transactions and Case Studies, to put what has been learnt into practice. Participants will be divided into small working groups to apply ‘in practice and context’ tips and techniques learnt during the programme under the guidance of our expert training faculty. The programme will enable participants to effectively draft and negotiate contracts with knowledge and confidence. This programme combines up-to-date legal and regulatory issues with practical methods for translating this law into Bankable Power Projects.
